Title: Head of Human Resources
Directorate:
Finance and Corporate Services
Permanent, Full-time
Salary: £67,511
Location: London

The Electoral Commission is the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance in the UK.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Human Resources professional to lead our HR team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality HR services and further developing the function into a strategic leader for the Commission’s internal change.  The post-holder will have significant opportunity to shape the Commission’s human resources strategy, policies and services in support of the Commission’s corporate plan to 2026/27.  Equally, as the Commission’s most senior HR professional you will have a great degree of autonomy and will need the skill, knowledge and credibility to provide guidance and advice without referring to a higher level.

The role will involve leading the on-going development and delivery of the Commission’s People Strategy, leading the delivery of HR projects and customer-focussed HR operations, as well as managing the team and contributing to the wider running of the Commission as a key member of our Senior Leadership Group.

Role requirements

You will be a Chartered member of the Institute of Personnel and Development qualification (or equivalent) and have wide experience of HR functions at a suitably senior level.  In addition to proven expertise across the range of HR functions, the successful candidate will demonstrate good strategic skills, both to identify and resolve the strategic issues facing the Commission and to prioritise the work of the team.  A willingness to contribute to the day-to-day work of the team at peak periods is also required.  Of course you will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work across teams.

We offer excellent terms and conditions, including flexible working hours and the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension (dependent on scheme rules).

We would like to continuously increase the diversity of our employees. Applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates are particularly welcomed.
