Do you want to develop your career and help improve the health of Londoners? Our sector-leading, public health partnership is looking for a Head of Programme.
The London Association of Directors of Public Health supports Directors of Public Health across 33 local authorities. We’ve built a vibrant, sector-leading partnership with high levels of trust and buy-in. We work closely with our partners, including London Councils, Public Health England, NHS England, and the Greater London Authority.
Our programme of peer-support, leadership development, service innovation and joint commissioning helps boroughs address some of the huge public health challenges facing London: air quality, child obesity, mental wellbeing, smoking and sexual health, to name a few.
We want to develop further our reputation as a high performing, trusted and credible professional network, and extend our influence and impact. The Head of Programme role is a high-profile and exciting opportunity to ensure we deliver our ambitious plans.
About the role
The Head of Programme role offers a unique opportunity to deliver change, improvement and innovation on a regional footprint, working closely with chief officers across all London boroughs and with other London partners, including London Councils, the GLA, the NHS, as well as with national partners.
You will oversee the coordination and management of the programme, to improve outcomes and respond to the challenges facing public services.
This is a complex and stretching role, where you will apply programme design and delivery, partnership working, policy and strategy, service improvement, systems thinking, strong financial management, team leadership, and communication skills. The role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your personal profile and build strong professional networks.
You will lead a matrix team based across two sites, with oversight of those based in other boroughs.
We are looking for a motivated, professional and experienced public sector manager, with a track record of developing and delivering change programmes, in a fast-paced and complex environment.
A background in public health is not essential; you will bring strategic and political awareness, with an eye for improvement and efficiency, in order to inform our work and capitalise on opportunities.
A natural collaborator, you will be able to influence and challenge at all levels, spot connections, and bring a systems leadership perspective.
As a trusted advisor to chief officers on politically sensitive issues, you will have excellent communication skills and the ability to gain confidence of the people you work with.
To be successful you will need to bring personal resilience and flexibility and be comfortable with regularly working independently.
You will bring a supportive and coaching management style, resulting in a high performing and well regarded team.
