Job Introduction

Are you seeking a new and exciting leadership opportunity? Can you harness our potential and lead us on our journey of continued improvement?

Balfour Primary School is a large four-form entry school in the centre of Brighton. Since being judged as a school requiring improvement in November 2017, leaders have brought about significant improvement.

The school has been ably led by our Deputy Headteachers, but Governors are now seeking to appoint an experienced Headteacher who can realise the full potential of the School. Balfour Primary School has always been held in the highest regard by the community and it is vital that this view is sustained and re-strengthened during what has been, and is, a challenging period.

We need an experienced and enthusiastic Headteacher, or an exceptional Deputy, who will promote the school’s strategic vision and values and establish a culture of lifelong learning. Crucial to the success of this post is an ability to think creatively with flair and flexibility and to engage and gain the respect of a highly committed staff.

The school is a vibrant and busy place with enthusiastic staff and pupils who are keen to learn. They are ably supported by a dedicated governing body and supportive parents.

The Governing Body is seeking to appoint an outstanding leader and strategic thinker who has:

  • A deep knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning and the ability to rapidly improve outcomes for all student groups
  • A proven commitment to delivering good or better teaching across the school and providing a diverse and challenging curriculum for all children
  • The ability to motivate, challenge and engage collaboratively with the school stakeholders to ensure the highest levels of achievement
  • Skills to manage change effectively
  • The skills to work with all stakeholders to create and develop a vision for the school

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and we encourage you to come and see for yourself what a wonderful place Balfour is.
