London Borough of Bromley Council is working hard to do things differently in SEND, to do things better than ever before. We are a forward-thinking Service in an ambitious and stable Local Authority: we are champions for our children and young people with Special Educational Needs, and we all work hard to make sure that we’re doing as much as possible to deliver solid outcomes and great opportunities for our students.
We’ve changed how we do things, and with a new-look service taking shape, we’re wanting to take on 12 EHC Coordinators. There’re opportunities across our new assessments team, our 0 – Year 8 team and our new Preparing for Adulthood team.
Why Bromley?
Are you passionate about improving the outcomes and increasing opportunities for children and young people with Special Educational Needs? Do you have a care and concern to see SEN done differently, to see SEN done better?
If so, this is your opportunity to join a high-performing, highly-focussed and dedicated SEN Service, where we put children and young people first.
We invest in our people too, where teamwork and collaboration matters, where learning and development are not jut tick-boxes once a year, but a part of our processes. We celebrate success, and every piece of work you do will help shape a brighter, fairer, more inclusive future for those with SEN.
We offer a generous package including competitive pay, career average pension scheme, flexible working practices and the Bromley employee benefits scheme; Cycle2Work, Salary Sacrifice Lease Car, Technology Scheme, GymFlex and a wide range of local and national discounts.
About you, and your responsibilities:
You might have experience from a Local Authority background, from a school, college, or Early Years background, you might come from a Health Service or third sector background too. Certainly, you’ll have a good knowledge and experience of the SEN system, and you will have a demonstrable understanding of the SEN Code of Practice, and you’ll be aware of changes that might be coming in the SEN system, and what that might mean for councils, schools, and most of all children and young people.
For those wanting to join our PFA team, you’ll have an understanding of what it means to Prepare for Adulthood, and a working knowledge of the concept of post-16 and post-18 provision and placements.
You’ll be good at communicating, able to share the positive and the difficult messages which come with SEN, confident in the knowledge that your managers and local leaders will support you. You’ll do this with empathy, with kindness, but also with clearness and confidence.
You’ll be well organised and able to balance competing priorities day to day, and you’ll understand why good record keeping is important, and most importantly, do it. You’ll understand that SEN is not just the school or setting, not just the Council, not just the Health Service, but that we all have a part to play, when, how, and why.
We are committed to working with the best candidates and the best colleagues, so the recruitment of EHC Coordinators will continue until we have all roles filled.
Interviews will also be on an ongoing basis, every week in December to begin with.
If this sounds like you, like the work and job you want to do, in a place you want to be, please do not hesitate to apply, we look forward to hearing from you soon.
We are forces family friendly and are part of the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme (Bronze Award). We welcome applications from ex-Armed Forces personnel, reservists, veterans, cadet instructors and military spouses/partners.
We are committed to achieving equal opportunities in employment and service delivery and as a disability confident committed employer we encourage applications from people with disabilities. As part of this commitment, we will consider reasonable adjustment to support disability employment.
