An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Legal Assistant to join our friendly and professional legal department here at the London Borough of Redbridge, to provide a comprehensive and professional legal service on a permanent basis. The London Borough of Redbridge is an exciting and rapidly evolving place to live and work. This post is a key opportunity for a highly motivated property legal assistant or paralegal to bring their experience and enthusiasm to the team.

 

You will report to the Principal Lawyer $ú Property and Planning within the Legal Department. You will also work closely with other Council departmental clients and specialist departments.

 

You will provide the Council with sound advice and guidance on aspects of all property related work.

 

Responsibilities - 

  • Conduct a full range of residential property cases and some commercial property cases on behalf of the Council's Housing and Property Team.
  • Liaising with HMRC in relation to SDLT liability.
  • Complete and lodge application for first registration at Land Registry
  • Handling of post completion enquiries including request for certificate of compliance, deed of postponement and requisitions raised by the Land Registry.
  • Experience of drafting less complex title reports.
  • Utilising skills and experience gained within a similar position, you will report to the Principal Lawyer (Property & Planning) and will have your own varied caseload of matters including residential and commercial property and land transactions.

 

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Hold a qualifying law degree, LPC or equivalent legal qualification.
  • Have experience of both residential and commercial conveyancing, preferably in a local government context.
  • Experienced of dealing with all aspects of Right to Buy transactions
  • Sound knowledge of the law and practice of property law
  • Conduct a case load within your area of expertise with limited supervision
