About the Role
We are seeking four dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Court Ushers at the Coroner’s Court. This is a key supporting role, ensuring the smooth and professional running of inquest hearings and providing sensitive assistance to all court users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Coroner’s Officers to prepare the court and assist in the smooth running of inquests.
  • Liaise with all parties attending court, including bereaved families, witnesses, legal representatives, juries, and members of the press.
  • Provide information, support, and guidance in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Handle contact with the public sensitively, exercising discretion and professionalism at all times.
  • Undertake administrative duties and support the Coroner’s Office when court is not in session.
  • Prioritise tasks effectively and work under minimal supervision to meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • Ability to deal compassionately and professionally with distressed members of the public.
  • Emotional resilience and ability to manage exposure to distressing or sensitive information.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work occasional full or part days as required to cover court schedules.
  • Previous experience in a public-facing or administrative role is desirable but not essential — full training will be provided.
