Advisory Teacher for Visually Impaired
An exciting opportunity to join Brent as an Advisory Teacher for Children and Young People with a Vision Impairment
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Vision Impairment Service which is committed to meeting the needs and reducing the barriers faced by children and young people with a vision impairment, as well as supporting their families and others who work with them.
We are particularly interested in a teacher who would be keen to work with children in primary/secondary settings and ideally have experience in teaching Braille, but very much welcome applications from all teachers who are interested in working with children with a vision impairment.
A mandatory qualification in vision impairment or multi-sensory impairment is desirable but support will be offered for an experienced and committed teacher wishing to train for the mandatory qualification (QTVI).
For an informal discussion about this post please contact Paul Fielding, Visual Impairment Team Leader, on paul.fielding@brent.gov.uk
The post-holder will hold the mandatory qualification to teach either visually impaired or multisensory impaired children or have extensive experience in teaching children with special educational needs and willing to study for the mandatory qualification (QTVI).
We are looking for someone who can empathise with parents and support them in a practical way. The person appointed will have the necessary skills to train educational staff and influence them in their practice. They will have excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for helping children and young people to fulfil their potential.
