About Camden

Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Our residents and communities are at the heart of everything we do. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today and we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind.  Here’s where you can help decide a better future for us all.

 How You’ll Be Involved

In this varied and hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for carrying out labouring, driving and cleaning duties across housing, public buildings and other premises owned or managed by the Council. You’ll support craft workers by assisting with repairs and maintenance, ranging from emergency call-outs to planned refurbishment projects in both occupied and vacant properties.

Your day-to-day work will involve collecting and delivering materials, supporting tradespeople on-site, and ensuring workshops and buildings are kept clean and safe. You’ll play a key part in helping us deliver repairs right the first time, maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency while minimising disruption to residents. You’ll be expected to work safely and respectfully, with a strong focus on health and safety regulations including safeguarding, lone working, asbestos awareness, manual handling and COSHH.

Communication is key, and you’ll be working closely with residents, supervisors and planners to keep everyone informed and ensure service objectives are met. You’ll also be responsible for the safe use and upkeep of tools, materials and Council vehicles, and for completing all necessary documentation accurately and on time. This is a role that requires initiative, adaptability and a commitment to delivering excellent service every day.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

All About You

To find out more about what it is like to work at Camden, meet some of our People by visiting 'www.camdenjobs.co.uk/our-stories'.

We’re looking for someone who brings a practical understanding of building trades and how different tasks fit together on site. You’ll have experience working in maintenance environments, particularly in occupied properties, and be confident using your initiative to solve problems while knowing when to seek support.

Working well as part of a team is essential, and you’ll need to be physically fit to manage the manual aspects of the role. A strong grasp of health and safety principles is important, along with a commitment to equal opportunities and respectful working practices. You’ll be someone who communicates clearly and professionally, with excellent customer service skills and the ability to manage your own time effectively. Familiarity with using technology such as PDAs to receive and record work is also helpful. A clean and valid driving licence is required, and any relevant health and safety training certificates will be beneficial.
