Fathers Inclusion Worker
Fathers Inclusion Worker
£41,133 - £43,680 per annum
1 Year Fixed Term
In Newham, people are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice. As a Fathers’ Inclusion Worker, you will play a vital role in shaping a culture where fathers and male carers are visible, valued, and supported within Family Hubs and various service areas.
You’ll be part of a forward-thinking team within the Family Hub model, working collaboratively with multi-agency partners to reduce inequalities and give every child the best start in life.
We are seeking a passionate and motivated Fathers’ Inclusion Worker to join our Family Hubs and Prevention team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead innovative work that engages, supports, and empowers fathers and male carers, particularly during the perinatal period and the crucial early years of a child’s life (0–5).
In this role, you will champion the role of fathers and male carers in children’s development, wellbeing, and learning. You will work directly with dads and male caregivers, building their confidence in parenting, supporting positive parent-child attachment, and helping to strengthen the home learning environment. You will also challenge gendered assumptions in practice and help ensure that services across Newham are inclusive and father-friendly.
This is not a standard 9–5 role. To truly engage fathers and male carers, you must be able to work flexibly, including regular evenings and weekends, ensuring services are accessible when dads and carers are available.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively engage fathers, expectant dads, and male carers, particularly those less likely to access services.
- Support fathers and male carers during pregnancy, birth preparation, and the first 1,001 days to build strong early bonds.
- Facilitate group sessions, workshops, and peer networks designed for fathers and male carers with children aged 0–5.
- Provide one-to-one support, addressing barriers such as housing, employment, co-parenting conflict, and mental wellbeing.
- Work in partnership with midwives, health visitors, early help teams, schools, and voluntary sector partners to embed father- and male carer-inclusive practice.
- Promote digital tools and resources that help fathers and male carers support their child’s learning and development.
- Record and monitor engagement with fathers and male carers to inform and improve practice.
- Co-produce materials, campaigns, and programmes with fathers and male carers to ensure services are accessible and culturally relevant.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about fatherhood and male caregiving and the role dads and carers play in children’s lives.
- Able to build trusting relationships with fathers and male carers from diverse backgrounds.
- Skilled in group facilitation and confident working one-to-one with families.
- Flexible, resilient, and committed to working evenings/weekends.
- Experienced in engaging families that are not known to services and diverse communities.
- Knowledgeable about early years development, perinatal support, and safeguarding.
Essential requirements include:
- A relevant qualification (Level 3 or above) in Early Years, Family Support, Health, Education, Youth Work, or Community Development, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working directly with fathers, male carers, families, or children in early years/parenting contexts.
- Strong organisational, communication, and record-keeping skills.
- An enhanced DBS check (required).
Please note: This role is not gender-specific. We welcome applications from all candidates with the right skills, values, and experience.
