How You’ll Be Involved

We are looking for a Fire Safety Advisor to join our team and be a source of expert fire safety advice for staff and colleagues across the Council. In this role, you will work closely with service managers to develop and deliver innovative, best practice fire safety solutions, ensuring compliance with all fire safety legislation.

You will play a key role in implementing and developing a fire safety management system to achieve excellent standards of fire safety management across Camden. Promoting fire safety best practices and innovation among managers, you will work proactively with the London Fire Brigade and other organizations to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.

Your responsibilities will include delivering high-quality, customer-focused fire safety advisory services, providing diagnostic services on a range of fire safety issues, and recommending specialist or generalist fire safety solutions. You will also research, develop, and influence the acceptance and implementation of best practice fire safety services, policies, and principles. Additionally, you will undertake and review fire inspections, build strong working partnerships, and be an ambassador for the health and safety function.

We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in fire safety, particularly in conducting fire risk assessments in accordance with PAS79. You should have significant experience in handling complex fire safety issues, especially those with high-risk implications such as sleeping accommodations. Experience in advising on fire safety within a large and complex organization is essential.

You should be capable of undertaking Fire Risk Assessments, conforming to relevant guidance, and writing appropriate reports for local teams, services, and committees. Broad expertise in conducting fire safety audits and investigations, along with effective presentation and training skills, is highly desirable. A pragmatic, collaborative, and determined approach to work is crucial, as well as excellent time management and interpersonal skills. The ability to influence others and perform well under pressure will be key to your success in this role.
