This role is for a young person aged 17 – 24 who has lived care experience and has been receiving support from Camden social care.
About the team/service
Family Group Conference and Participation service is an innovative team and forward thinking. The goal of the service is to make sure Camden residents of any age can participate meaningfully in Camden services and that their rights are championed. The team strives to ensure opportunities to participate are available for Camden’s children, families and adults, and that professionals working with those children, families and adults feel confident and capable to empower them to participate in service planning and development.
What You’ll Be Doing / How You’ll Be Involved
As a co-chair of the Children in Care Council, you will be sharing chairing responsibilities with a peer. Together you will work with children in care and care experienced young people to improve how the local authority engages with them, encourages their participation and ensures they have a significant voice and influence in how we run our services.
The Children in Care Council provides an opportunity for children and young people to meet throughout the year and talk about their experiences of being cared for by Camden, make suggestions to make services better and get involved in making changes and improvements.The co-chair of the Children in Care Council will work with the Participation team to develop engaging activities and programmes that will help to involve children and young people in the development of our services and provide opportunities to have their views heard by senior leaders within the council.
This role will also involve planning and chairing Children in Care Council meetings and representing the views of children in care and care experienced young people in important forums throughout the year, including Camden’s Corporate Parenting Board.
We will give you training, support and mentoring so you can do this work. We expect you to work 8 hours per week, but we will be flexible around any education or other work commitments you have.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS. Please note Camden also offers the DBS update service.

To be considered for this exciting opportunity we expect you to meet the following:
- to have lived care experience
- to be between 17-24 years old
- to be willing to complete an enhanced DBS check
- to be enthusiastic and keen to learn
- to be comfortable working with children in care and care experienced young people
- to have a positive attitude
- Be creative and open to different ideas
- Be able to give a 12 months commitment to the role. Hours will be flexible to fit in with your needs i.e. college.
- Be able to commit to an average of 32 hours per month
