The area regeneration team plays a key role in bringing the We Make Camden Vision to life.  We deliver place-based regeneration projects that make a positive social, economic and environmental change for Camden’s Neighbourhoods. We do this by collaborating with citizens, organisations and across council services, building resilient and inclusive partnerships, proactively seeking opportunities and finding creative solutions to unlock benefits for Camden’s residents and communities.

The role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Area Regeneration Team at Camden.

We are looking for an experienced and versatile Area Regeneration Manager to work across a wide range of Area Regeneration projects and programmes.  

Initially the successful candidate will lead the Council’s work programme in the Kilburn area.  One Kilburn is a grassroots network that unites citizens, businesses and institutions to facilitate participation and social action focused on the things that matter most to people in Kilburn, whether in the borough’s of Brent, Camden or Westminster.  Starting three years ago as a ‘Community Improvement District’ pilot, the partnership has been building connections and supporting a range of local initiatives and community-led regeneration projects. 

Enabled by Camden Council with a strong emphasis on an inclusive participatory approach, regular open to all meetings are hosted, in addition to a range of issue specific sub-groups, including coordination, places and spaces, transport and communications. 

Examples of projects delivered so far include the re-activation of a vacant buildings for community use/ local benefit; the One Kilburn Community Fund which is supported a number of projects across the  themes of local film making, photography, environmental sustainability and social connection; development of the One Kilburn Digital Platform hosted on Commonplace and successfully bidding for Arts Council Funding to refurbish Kilburn Library, amongst many others.

Key to the success of One Kilburn is the close partnership working with local representatives and stakeholders. This includes working in collaboration with the London Borough’s of Brent and Westminster as well as the GLA.  The role also involves working closely with the Council’s Participation Team and wide range of internal services.  

The post holder will need transferable skills and adaptability to work on other regeneration projects across the work programme of the Area Regeneration Team, as required. 

The wider Area Regeneration programme includes a variety of projects including: Camden High Street Pedestrianisation Trial; Kentish Town Regis Road/ Camden Film Quarter; Securing funding such as £7.7m of Levelling Up Funding for a Healthy and Connected Neighbourhood in Gospel Oak; The Neighbourhood and Vacant Spaces programmes- Activating vacant spaces through co-creation for community benefit.  

The post come with line management responsibilities and as one of the teams four Area Regeneration Managers you will be expected to be an inspiring and compassionate leader within the team.  

As a manager you will lead by example to support and encourage diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking within the workplace and in the delivery of our services to create a truly inclusive directorate. 


About you
We are looking for a pro-active and dedicated Area Regeneration Manager to be part of a dynamic team.

You will be a people person, with experience of successfully building local partnerships and networks.  You will be a natural collaborator, with the ability to bring community and other stakeholders together, building trust and galvanising support.  You will be an engaging communicator and able to report to a range of audiences including senior officers, boards and elected members, in both written and verbal form and will demonstrate strong political awareness.

You will have excellent leadership, project/ programme management skills and must be able to manage projects to meet demanding deadlines. You will be a team player, able to lead others, manage junior staff and coordinate multi-disciplinary and cross-borough project teams. As a manager you will lead by example to support and encourage diversity and inclusion in all respects. 

You will have a track record for leading regeneration projects through from inception to delivery in a local authority context.  You must be comfortable working with complexity, across a diverse range of disciplines and stakeholders to creatively problem solve and deliver projects on the ground.  

The successful candidate will have the vision to guide One Kilburn into the next stage of its evolution.  Including strengthening strategic partnerships and unlocking transformative and coordinated local investment.
