School Admissions and Access Senior Officer
£39,855 - £42,324 per annum

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced and dynamic individual to work as a school admissions and appeals officer (primary and secondary) in Newham’s Education Access Group.  The role encompasses a wide range of statutory and non-statutory duties, including presenting the authority's case at appeal hearings and working in close partnership with schools in relation to admissions and children missing education, to support families in accessing education for their children.

Applicants should should have expert knowledge of the the relevant legislation, be a strong and confident communicator, who can develop positive relationships with diverse and large stakeholder groups.

Key Responsibilities
The role has a wide and diverse range of responsibilities, with the key elements being:

  • All elements of normal and in year admissions;
  • Delivering our borough wide co-ordinated in year process;
  • Support the delivery of school admissions appeals for maintained schools and academies;
  • Professionally represent the local authority and the Education Access Group at school admission appeal hearings;
  • Support the development and maintenance of our workflow and training documents directory;
  • Tracking the admission of children from point of offer to admission;
  • Providing advice to schools in relation to children missing education;
  • Delivering clear and robust communications for key stakeholders;
  • Building strong relationships with schools, senior officers within CYPS and key partners; 

This post is 36 hours per week full time, Monday to Friday. We operate a hybrid working arrangements which includes mandatory days at Newham Dockside, visting schools across the borough and other venues both in and out of Newham.
