Human Resources Officer- London Borough of Havering (hybrid working with visits to our schools)

Salary: Grade 4 (£30,630 - £32,931 p.a.)

Contract: permanent

The Education HR team is looking to recruit a Human Resources Officer to provide a high quality administrative service to our schools.

The successful candidates will need to:

Deliver a high quality, consistent service to schools and academies, that meets the SLA and strategic objectives

Advise school managers on the implementation of Teacher’s Pay and Conditions, NJC Pay and Conditions, Terms and Conditions Agreements for various Local Authorities, Statutory Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity/Paternity/Adoption, Model Pay Policy and Model Family Friendly Policy

Develop and maintain up to date working knowledge on relevant statutory and regulatory legislation and policies and terms and conditions for the highly varied workforce within schools and academies.

Role responsibilities: 

  • To work as part of a team to support and deliver HR administrative and terms and conditions service level agreements to all types of schools inside and outside of Havering as a traded service. 
  • To be a school’s first point of contact on all HR administrative and terms and conditions 
  • Receive, check and process New Starter, Variation and Leaver payroll notification forms to payroll for payment
  • Ensure that data received from schools is complete, accurate and properly authorised in line with relevant policy
  • Process and input information into the appropriate system, ensuring employee records are maintained, accurate and up to date
  • Issue offer letters and contracts of employment
  • Calculate, process and administer both Teaching & Support Staff pay increments
  • Assess employee entitlement and administer maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave schemes for both teaching and support staff

About you:

•    Has demonstrable experience of office administration, especially in a Human Resources environment

•    Has worked remotely with multiple clients

•    Has advised on either policies, procedures and/or regulations

•    Evidence of continuous professional development or training

•    Communicates clearly both verbally and in writing

•    Proactively gathers information about customers and consistently seeks to establish and meet their current  and future needs

•    Understands the importance of developing and maintaining constructive relationships with customers

•    To take pride in delivering high quality services to customers of the service

•    The ability to show a willingness to adapt and be flexible to changes in priority and workload, ensuring  deadlines are met through busy periods.

•    Accepts and adapts positively to change

•    Excellent interpersonal skills to engage, communicate and influence, forming effective working relationships with colleagues, school senior leaders and other partner organisations. 

•    Shows respect and understanding for all individuals, irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, race, disability, age, sexual orientation and religion

•    To ensure all employee records and sensitive information are handled with the utmost confidentiality
