The role
Lead, Innovate, and Make a Difference in Mental Health Services
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to take on a leadership role within Southwark Council's dedicated daytime AMHP service. As Team Manager, you will provide strategic oversight, expert guidance, and operational management to ensure the delivery of high-quality interventions for individuals in mental health crisis.
You will lead a small, committed team comprising an Advanced Practitioner, two full-time AMHPs, and a Business Support Officer. Additionally, you will supervise and support other AMHPs within the service, ensuring best practice and legal compliance. Your role will be pivotal in shaping service delivery, developing guidance, and maintaining strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including the local Mental Health Trust and Police.
With a focus on operational efficiency, you will manage data reporting, quality assurance, and service development. Your leadership will ensure that Mental Health Act requests are handled effectively, alternatives to compulsory admission are thoroughly explored, and the AMHP service remains responsive, legally robust, and person-centred.
About You
We are seeking an accomplished AMHP with substantial experience in mental health services, a strong knowledge of relevant legislation, and a passion for leadership. You will be a registered Social Worker (Social Work England) or equivalent professional, with current AMHP approval.

- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in report writing and data analysis.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will play a crucial role in service improvement, workforce development, and the implementation of best practices within the AMHP service.

About the Service
Southwark Council's AMHP service plays a critical role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health crises. Operating within Adult Social Care, the team provides interventions and legal guidance to ensure that individuals receive appropriate support in the least restrictive manner possible.
