About Camden
At Camden we believe that data is at the heart of improving our residents’ lives by empowering services with insights and decision support. We have embarked on an ambitious data strategy to become a centre of excellence for data. Data Engineering is key to transforming raw data into the useful information which can help services to provide better outcomes for residents. Camden is also leading on innovation with the adoption of data virtualization using Denodo and implementing a new Master Data Management solution and data engineers will be pivotal for these implementations.
The Data Engineering team work with a range of data sets reflecting the diversity of services across the council and the breadth of technologies used to underpin our applications. Some of the data we handle, such as our social care data, are highly sensitive and so even when engrossed in the technical aspects of the work, a data engineer always needs to be sensitive to the lives and stories represented in the data.
What You’ll Be Doing / How You’ll Be Involved
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will lead on the application of appropriate analytical techniques to create information which supports business decision-making, formatting and communicating results, using textual, numeric, graphical and other visualisation methods appropriate to the target audience.
You will be responsible for implementing data flows to connect operational systems for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems using both virtual and physical implementation techniques. Through this you will be building meaningful data products for data analysts and there will also be scenarios when you will be presenting the output of these data pipelines in dashboards for consumption by service users.
You will provide platform support for our data virtualization and reporting infrastructure including maintenance of existing pipelines and dashboards. Importantly, you will ensure that appropriate safeguards are applied to handling data.
Trusted, curated data which are generated according the “Engineer once - reuse often” principle are a fundamental building block for our data strategy and as a Senior Data Engineer you will be key to achieving this.
