Curriculum Leader - English

Thank you for your interest in working at George Mitchell School. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about our unique school and to highlight the significance of this important appointment. You are applying to join a staff team that are committed to providing the best opportunities for all students. The school is extremely ambitious and continually improving in all aspects. Therefore, I am looking for exceptional people with energy and drive to join us in this work. You will notice our school ethos and PRIDE values, which embodies the standard of the school we aspire to be.

The school is looking to appoint a Curriculum leader for English to lead and continue to develop this vital subject in the school. We look forward to the successful candidate working with colleagues in the department and the senior team to further strengthen the curriculum and its implementation.

Students in the school enjoy interactive learning activities and welcome the chance to engage with subject specialists to deepen their understanding. On the whole, students are confident writers and readers and are clear about its importance for their future career choices. Students are taught in Mixed Prior Attainment tutor groups in Key Stage Three and in Years 10 and 11.  Key stage 3 students also have a discrete reading lesson.

Why work within this English department?

The department is well resourced and fully staffed by a team of five highly committed, supportive, and experienced English specialists. They are dedicated to the growth and success of our students, and have worked hard over the past few years to develop robust Schemes of Learning and curriculum plans for both KS3 and 4. This work has led to increasing student confidence and attainment. One team member has responsibility for KS3 English and literacy.  At Key Stage 4 the curriculum and course are designed to prepare pupils for AQA English GCSEs.

Why work in Waltham Forest?
