ABOUT THE JOB
Newham has created an exciting opportunity to work within a new team of SEND Case Officers to contribute in the delivery of SEND provision for children and young people aged 0 to 25. Our Case Officers will be at the heart of making a meaningful impact on the lives of children and young people within Newham.
Newham’s SEND Case Officers will oversee a range of case work and prioritise person centred planning with children, young people and their families to ensure that the needs and ambitions of each child is fully reflected in their EHC plan.
Our case work team is part of a broader multi-agency SEND service that comprises of travel, education psychology, tribunals and special educational support services, which includes a speech and language team. The service shares a commitment to deliver positive and successful outcomes for children with SEND with colleagues across Children’s Services in areas such as Health and Social Care.

ABOUT YOU
Candidates must meet the following criteria to be shortlisted (please note this is not an exhaustive list and applications should meet the person specification in full):
- Practical knowledge and experience of delivering Education Health and Care Plans within statutory timelines – beyond supporting individual children/young people.
- Practical knowledge and experience of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice.
- Recent experience of managing a full and varied caseload, including children and young people with complex and additional needs.
You will be able demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to negotiate, persuade, build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels. Your empathic approach and high level of emotional intelligence mean you will thrive in this demanding, public facing role. You will be ready to work independently to prioritise your workload at pace. You will be well organised and adept at using IT such as Microsoft office programmes including Teams and case management systems.
