SEND Unit Lead Teacher
Pay Range: Main Scale 3-6/Upper Pay Scale 1-3/TLR2b
Contract: Permanent
Commencing: September 2025
We are looking to appoint a SEND Unit Lead Teacher / Manager, to work as part of our Senior Leadership Team, to develop and grow our brand new SEND Unit provision for 12 SEMH pupils. The purpose of this provision is to provide bespoke support for pupils and provide opportunities for the children to access the mainstream curriculum as appropriate.
We are seeking to employ an experienced primary teacher with expertise in supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, particularly SEMH. The SEND Unit Lead will manage and lead a team of learning support staff and share; support, advice and strong SEND knowledge.
Alongside your teaching commitment within the SEND Unit, the Lead Teacher will work as part of the Inclusion Team who have responsibility for the organisational management of the Unit, such as admissions (including consultations and, where needed, tribunals), liaising with the Local Authority and professionals, and the statutory annual review cycle as examples.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the successful candidate will be invited to join SLT meetings, to ensure it becomes integral to the provision of the whole school. They will be expected to model a commitment to the wider running and thriving of the school and be a role model in their professional attitude and conduct.
This position requires the candidate to:
- Hold QTS and have experience in teaching the primary age range and children with significant SENDs;
- Be confident in using your knowledge of current theory and practice in teaching and learning, and SEND;
- Be ready to utilise the benefits of a curriculum that is innovative and flexible in terms of delivery and content; this is likely to include designing a bespoke curriculum that meets the needs of a variety of learners;
- Be engaged with both the schools and provisions ethos, thinking creatively and reflectively within an open and honest team, whilst keeping the needs of the pupils firmly at the centre;
- Be able to develop positive relationships with pupils to ensure our children are the best they can be;
- Be a team player who is always willing to go above and beyond to model best practice themselves, and inspire and motivate the staff they work with to the best they can be.
- Play a full part in the life of the school and is committed to working in partnership with staff, parents, governors and other outside professionals;
- The candidate will hold, be undertaking or be willing to complete the NASENCO qualification.
- To fulfil the safeguarding elements of the role, the successful candidate will also hold or be willing to complete Level 3 Designated Safeguarding Lead Training.
