Hybrid working - 3 days per week at Ley Street Depot

Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east-London borough. What we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to support our vision. As a result, we've developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council.

We're one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the third most diverse London borough. Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the city.

As a Council, Redbridge is undergoing rapid transformation, with the arrival of Crossrail having fuelled investment in new homes, jobs and infrastructure. During this time of exciting change, the Council must ensure that the borough is cleaner, greener and safer than ever before.

Civic Pride is an increasingly significant service area withing Redbridge and we are now looking for service leaders who share our vision and commitment to supporting the development of a vibrant, growing and diverse East London community, as well as a modern and inclusive council.

We’re looking for an ambitious environmental services / civic pride professional, to deliver high-quality services that respond to the needs of residents and are recognised as an exemplar amongst our peers.

This role calls for demonstrable experience of contract management and procurement and working at a senior level in a political environment.  High-level influencing and communication skills will be required for success.

The Role

Reporting to the Operational Director for Civic Pride, you’ll be responsible for some of Redbridge’s most crucial resident-facing services: Waste & Recycling, Arboriculture and Grounds Maintenance, Street Cleansing and Neighbourhood Engagement.

Leading a high-performing team, and working with key partners, you’ll be tasked with

  • Driving performance and value from the council’s waste collection services, working in partnership with Redbridge Civic Services (the Council’s Arms Length Trading Company)
  • Working closely with East London Waste Authority on re-procuring the council’s waste disposal contracts and delivering successful service changes that drive up recycling and minimise residual waste
  • Utilising the council’s engagement services to reduce waste, littering and fly-tipping
  • Ensuring the Neighbourhoods service is fully compliant with statutory regulations
  • Reviewing the council’s strategies and plans to shape cost-effective solutions and drive continuous improvement in service delivery, in line with forthcoming legislation
  • Preparation of capital and revenue budgets relating to the work of Neighbourhood services and having affordable plans in place to deliver the annual budget and Medium-Term Financial Strategy.

Provisional Interview Dates 29th or 30th January 2025.
