Our ALS student cohort study a range of Level 1, 2, and 3 vocational programmes including English and Maths. The role will involve tutoring, supporting and managing a caseload of individual students or small groups in order to ensure that they achieve their full academic potential. The role includes raising the employability prospects and aspirations of our ALS learners whilst scaffolding student independence and building their independent study skills.

About you

The successful candidate should have a degree (or equivalent), and a successful track record of teaching and working with students with SEND as well as relevant CPD in SEND. You should also be familiar with assistive technology and be adept at using these resources within your study skill sessions. You will also be responsible for tracking the progress and distance travelled for your caseload of learners as well as be a point of contact between the ALS department and career cluster staff members. The successful candidate will also chair the annual reviews for the students on their caseload as well as oversee the completion of all annual review documentation and the annual review reports. The ideal candidate is dynamic, is driven and creative, and has high aspirations for all of their students to achieve and progress. You will actively assist in adding value to our student’s skillset whilst they are at UCG as well as being committed to being a proactive and solution-focused member of the ALS team.

You will also possess a recognised Level 5/6 teaching qualification (PGCE/CertEd) or be willing to work towards a Level 5 teaching qualification upon appointment. Excellent communication, administration and interpersonal skills are essential in this role, alongside a student-centred and solution-focused attitude.
