Teacher of Design Technology - 1 specialist discipline area (Food, Graphic Design, Resistant Materials, Systems and Control and Textiles)

Required from: January / April or September 2025 start

(ECTs and second placement trainees welcome)

About the Role

We seek to appoint an ambitious, enthusiastic and highly motivated Design Technology teacher. The successful applicant must have excellent subject knowledge, an understanding of effective pedagogy and must be able to teach one of the specialisms to pupils at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 while working in the wider Design Technology team within KS3. We have a friendly, dynamic, highly supportive, and dedicated staff team within D&T, including a senior technician, and we are looking for someone who would be able to add a further dimension to our future department vision.

The DT team is dedicated to fostering a love of their subject through demonstration of their passion and enthusiasm, and is committed to providing consistently high quality curricular and extracurricular experiences for pupils. Since the current Head of Department was appointed in Autumn 2021, the D&T department has raised its profile rapidly across Key Stages 3 & 4. As a result, it boasts the highest grades the school has ever achieved at GCSE level within the areas of Construction and 3D Design.

The department is in an exciting development phase at KS3 with new Schemes of Work planned from September 2024 that, for the first time, will showcase a five-discipline curriculum offer for our students. We are equipped with two workshops that deliver Resistant Materials and Systems & Control, a food technology room, a graphic design / textiles room in development (to launch in September 2024) and a prep room.

We also offer Hospitality & Catering at KS4, taught by a newly appointed specialist, and we are looking to further expand our GCSE and vocational offer for September 2025 and beyond.

This post represents an ideal opportunity to work within a friendly, supportive and professional team, in a subject area which produces consistently excellent results. It is an excellent opportunity for either an ECT or an experienced teacher to develop their career. As well as offering an excellent induction and support programme, the school prides itself on a comprehensive staff development programme, focussing on excellent teaching and learning.
