About the role:
To act as lead officer providing strategic policy direction and leadership, operational management and financial control for Property Professional Services within the Council.
The Assistant Director of Property Professional Services is responsible for the delivery of a highly responsive and proactive property professional service, enabling the delivery of key strategic property projects for the Council.
This includes leading on the appraisal and delivery of direct residential and mixed-use developments, joint ventures and refurbishment opportunities, and ensuring the terms for the structure and restructure of development agreements protect the Council's interests and priorities.
The postholder will provide strategic leadership to the team, building and maintaining positive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including members of the public and professional partner organisations. Support the Cabinet, Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team, to achieve the aims and desired outcomes of the Council.

What you'll need to succeed:
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Substantial experience of leading and managing estates and valuations teams in a complex corporate or public service environment.
- Proven ability to manage a wide variety of activities across a range of professional areas of expertise and oversee their achievement of the organisation's strategic goals.
- Significant senior property professional services experience, including translating organisational drivers into strategic objectives, longer term plans, new ways of working and specific outcomes, for a portfolio of services.
- Extensive and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of property industry standards and regulations, including those relating to acquisitions and disposals, valuations, commercial landlord and tenant etc.
- Proven track record of accountability for significant budgets and ensuring the delivery of services within agreed resources.
- Authority and credibility to work effectively in a political environment and establish positive working relationships with Members.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication and presentation skills, with proven ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences, both property professionals and non-professionals including Members and members of the public.
- Excellent leadership and management skills with a track record in developing staff and improving performance.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent standard
- Relevant professional qualification - MRICS or equivalent
