Our supported and temporary housing team really gets to the heart of social housing, providing homes to some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in our communities. Are you a legal professional with a passion for housing management and a desire to make a difference? Join our business development team as a Paralegal and become part of our legal resource.

You will provide crucial legal support to our operational and repairs teams on a range of housing management and disrepair issues. As a trusted and knowledgeable voice on legal matters, you'll work closely with resident-facing officers, repair teams, and tenancy sustainment and safeguarding teams to ensure cases are handled sensitively and effectively.

Our business development team works alongside our resident-facing colleagues and managers across supported and temporary housing, to deliver excellent services in quality homes and places, employing a variety of specialist functions and utilising a broad range of skills. You'll need to work well under pressure delivering a 'can do' and high-quality support service in an area where attention to detail is critical but knowing that you'll be part of a friendly and supportive team.

Duties include:

  • Managing your own caseload to provide legal support to operational colleagues on a range of housing management-related issues
  • Manage your own caseload to provide legal support to repairs colleagues, particularly the handling of disrepair claims within the pre-action protocol
  • Prepare, draft and respond to all necessary legal documentation to high standard, including internal reports with recommendations for decision
  • Work effectively with panel solicitors where external involvement is required
  • Work collaboratively with, and offer coaching to, legal assistants across casework, as needed
  • Confidently represent the business in external settings, such as court, multi-agency meetings, mediation and casework panels

The Ideal Candidate

You'll provide legal services aid to your team and the wider supported and temporary housing team. You'll need to support them to deliver an excellent service in this busy environment. You'll also need to have good written skills and be very organised to meet deadlines and ensure the team runs smoothly.

Essential:

  • Experience working with a legal department, housing association, local authority or similar
  • Experience managing own caseload with cases similar to those required within this role
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good grasp of applicable legislation and the Civil Procedure Rules
  • Good legal drafting skills
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills
  • Strong organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficiency using legal databases and MS Office suite
  • Good research skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to develop and sustain strong relationships with your team and third party stakeholders
  • A law degree, CILEx or equivalent
