We are currently seeking interest from candidates able to work within a team and assist the Council in the sensitive service delivery within the Borough’s cemeteries.

The Burial and maintenance service returned to an in-house provision in 2018 and to build on its continued success we require good people within the team to assist in service delivery.

The primary function of the role is to provide safe, sympathetic and presentable burial space within cemetery grounds, in line with legislation, Health and Safety, best practice and service user requirements.

The service operates throughout all seasons, weather conditions and is physically demanding.

Ideally candidates will have previous experience in the role, however we are willing to consider someone with experience in industries such as cemetery services, the construction industry including landscape gardening/horticulture.

You will be provided with specialised training covering all aspects of burial provision ensuring you have the underpinning and technical knowledge to perform your role
The basic working week is 36 hours but as part of providing the highest levels of care for the bereaved, you hours will need to be flexible to accommodate the needs of the service; some overtime may also be available.

Usual hours are 8am - 4:15pm = Monday - Friday.
You will be required to work 1 bank holiday a year and 1 weekend in every 6.

You will need to:

- Hold a current, valid driving licence up to and including 3.5 tonne. 
- Have experience working in the cemetery service or a related service.
- Have experience in the operation of tipper vehicles and/or mechanical diggers.
- Be physically able to undertake lifting and handling of heavy and unstable or weighty items.
- Be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
