Group Accountant

Permanent – Full Time

We are seeking a Group Accountant to support Children’s Social Care, Education and Schools.  The Group Accountant will work alongside an experienced Head of Finance Business Partnering for the same portfolio to act as a principal point of contact for service managers within the Council, as well as Headteachers and other school staff.

Your responsibilities will include providing high quality financial services to senior stakeholders, effective management of the Schools Finance Team and the Children’s and Education Finance Team and supporting the Head of Business Partnering to provide input to the development of business strategy and plans.

You will need to be a CCAB qualified accountant or have significant experience of working at a senior level in a finance team within a large and complex organisation.  You will have a sound understanding of local government finance and be a confident communicator who is able to foster great working relationships with those you work with. Ideally you will have experience working with Schools and the Dedicated Schools Grant, but if not, you will have a demonstrable willingness and ability to learn new funding systems, rules and regulations quickly. A flexible approach and the ability to adapt to changing priorities is essential, as is the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.

While the practicalities of the role mean that the post holder will likely focus more heavily on either Schools or on Children’s and Education, there will be an expectation of working across both areas as business need requires.
