Private Sector Housing Apprentice

Four-year fixed term contract (until completion of degree programme). Full time - working hours will vary dependent on the university teaching programme but will be full time when not required to be at university i.e. non-taught days and academic holidays

 

About the role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen in the Private Sector Housing Service (PSH) for an Apprentice. This is a four-year apprenticeship training programme to become a Environmental Health Practitioner gaining a BSc in Environmental Health, after which you will be encouraged to join the Service as an Environmental Health Practitioner. It is a unique opportunity to earn while you learn and we welcome an enthusiastic, dedicated team members committed to studying towards a degree level.

As a PSH Environmental Health Practitioner Apprentice you will gain valuable work experience to support our residents to live and work in safe healthy environments. On days when not attending taught classes you will be required to work alongside experienced colleagues in the Environmental Health.  This will involve you spending time out in the community working with local businesses and member of the public developing your knowledge and skills to carrying out a range of inspections and providing education on food safety and food standards, health and safety at work, public health, housing, environmental protection, statutory nuisance, pest control as well as much more.

Building on the taught knowledge of the degree, you will develop the practical skills of an Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP), while learning from and supporting experienced professionals. Upon successful completion of the four-year degree programme, you would have the opportunity to gain professional status as an EHP.

It will be a condition of any employment offer that you are accepted onto the degree programme at Middlesex University by September 2024. Support will be provided to liaise with the university for the application.

We are looking for someone who is ambitious, keen to learn, interested in the subject area and with the commitment to see it through. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and organised, with excellent time management skills.

As part of the apprenticeship package, the degree tuition fees are fully funded by Redbridge, meaning you will not require a tuition fee loan. You will also earn a salary while you study, as well as having your core travel expenses to attend University funded.

You must be waiting for your examination results or already have the relevant entrance requirements to access the Environmental Health Apprenticeship degree course at Middlesex University.
