Job Grade: Level 4 Apprentice 
Work Location: The postholder will work across several sites including our main office in Tottenham Hale and our site at the Edmonton EcoPark. There will also be opportunity for home/remote working

Contract Type: Fixed Term for 20 months (15 months training, 5-month end point assessment)

The candidate must be a resident of one of the 7 North London boroughs whom we serve; Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, and Waltham Forest.

Employed by London Borough of Camden, the Community Engagement Apprentice will be based in North London Waste Authority (NLWA), serving Camden and six other north London boroughs.

About the Apprenticeship

  • Level 4 Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Practitioner
  • The role will be carried out with training provided by LDN Apprenticeships.  
  • The expected hours per week are 36, which includes 1 day a week for online training as part of the structured course curriculum. 
  • In addition, once every two months for approx. 2 hours, you will have one to one coaching and group workshops with LDN apprenticeships. 

About the role

This is an exciting new role to support North London Waste Authority’s community programmes, which include work with schools and local organisations. The overall aim of our social value work is to improve outcomes for residents in north London. Our social value programme provides opportunities like apprenticeships and training, workshops and site visits for schools, and funding for community groups. This is a chance to develop and contribute to a variety of projects during a transformational period at NLWA. You will create and support relationships with schools and community groups and ensure they are well-informed on visits and programmes. The role will also be involved in wider social value programmes within the authority and on the North London Heat and Power Project.

This role is for 20 months, fixed term to cover the period of the apprenticeship.

You will have a keen interest in social value and supporting local residents. You will be enthusiastic about providing real benefits to north London residents. You will be a good communicator, and possess a friendly, attitude. The postholder will be a proud representative of NLWA.

You will have an open approach to championing equality, diversity, and inclusion, and of groups which are active in overcoming social disadvantage. You will be an active advocate for building effective and coherent partnerships with schools, internal teams, contractors, and community groups.

About NLWA

Our mission is to preserve resources and the environment for future generations by exemplary planning, innovation, and communication in managing north London’s waste. 

We serve two million residents in seven boroughs and run communications and engagement campaigns to help them reduce their rubbish and recycle more. We campaign for government and industry action to reduce unnecessary single-use items, encourage reuse and repair and promote effective recycling. 

To help tackle the climate emergency and to prevent rubbish going to landfill, we are building the greenest Energy Recovery Facility in the country and modern recycling facilities at the Edmonton EcoPark, through the North London Heat and Power Project.
