We have a fantastic opportunity for a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or Trainee TOD to join our school. If you are highly motivated and dedicated to making a difference to the lives of the children in our Resource provision and the school as a whole, then you are exactly what we are looking for!

Selwyn is an outstanding Primary School in Plaistow, East London, filled with happy children who are eager to learn. We are the resourced provision for deaf primary children in Newham and provide a Total Communication approach to support our children within mainstream classrooms and small additionality groups.

We are looking for a qualified TOD or a trainee TOD, who has outstanding classroom practice and is ready to play a key role within our provision. You must have a passion for teaching and learning and be committed to ensuring that our deaf children develop effective communication skills and achieve good academic outcomes.

We welcome applications from applicants who:

  • Hold the mandatory teacher of the deaf qualification / be enrolled on a QTOD training programme
  • Hold at least L2 BSL
  • Has evidence of being an exemplary practitioner and is able to demonstrate this practice to others
  • Can support colleagues to develop their own practice
  • Demonstrates high expectations of pupil outcomes
  • Has excellent organisational skills and is able to prioritise workload
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and the ability to work collaboratively with pupils, colleagues, parents and governors
  • Has the ability to create a stimulating and inclusive learning environment where all pupils make good and better progress
  • Has a commitment to their own professional development
