Mechanical Engineer
The Role
This important role in our Housing and Modernisation Department carries responsibility for ensuring that Southwark is able to provide good quality heating, hot water and stored water services. The successful applicants will carry out a changing role dependant on demands but will work on individual heating, communal heating, cold water storage systems, boosted water and dry riser installations and are expected to hold relevant qualifications including ACS accreditation and certification.
You will assist in ensuring that Southwark comply with the Gas Safety Regs, 1998 and that all of our residents receive a timely quality service and that Southwark receive value for money. As well as planning regular pre and post completion Inspections the role will involve liaising directly with residents, Housing Officers, TMO’s, Councillors, other Southwark Officers and external agencies.

About You
To be up to the challenge, you’ll need a sound grasp of health and safety legislation , be understanding and able to show empathy where required but having the experience to ensure that our residents receive good quality, safe mechanical services.
Experience of numerous/ different IT systems and an ability to learn is essential together with the ability to interpret and compile technical reports as directed.
The successful applicant may need to attend court sessions or Hearings to represent the Council. Previous experience of working in a similar role is essential.
We’ll also look for self-motivation, strong communication, IT and team working skills.
