The Post
This is an exciting opportunity to join our experienced and dedicated Public Mortuary Team at our HTA licensed mortuary facility in North West London.
Covering three of the five boroughs of HM Coroner (North London) jurisdiction, with a catchment area approaching 1m people, our Public Mortuary is one of the busiest in London, undertaking around 1100 Coronial and Forensic post mortems each year.
Under the lead of the Mortuary Superintendent, the post holder will participate fully in the provision of a quality service for Coroner’s and Forensic post mortem examinations, ensuring that all work is compliant with mortuary operational procedures and Human Tissue Authority licencing regulations.
The post holder will be required to assist pathologists in carrying out post mortems including reconstruction to a high standard, all procedures relating to tissue retention and cleaning procedures. You will also be involved in the administration and smooth running of the office.
As well as being able to communicate sensitively with families, the post holder will need to liaise with various staff including the mortuary superintendent, pathologists, funeral directors, coroner's officers, police, council staff, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals both internal and external
The post holder will be expected to take an active role in the on-call rota.
The Person
The successful applicant will support the Mortuary Superintendent and team with the day to day running of the mortuary service. The successful applicant will actively participate in the provision of an efficient, professional, established mortuary service. The mortuary performs in excess of 1100 post mortems per year including Home Office investigations.
The successful applicant should possess a flexible approach to working and be able to use common IT/computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
The successful applicant must possess a relevant APT qualification (minimum RSPH L3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or the RSPHH Certificate in Anatomical Pathology Technology).
