About the role:
We aim to ensure excellence and high value through the services we deliver and we are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the Waste and Recycling Team located within the Neighbourhoods & Environment Directorate for a 12 month secondment position. The Neighbourhoods and Environment Directorate ensures the Council's vision for Waltham Forest to become a safer, cleaner and healthier borough is being delivered.
As a Recycling Assistant you will contribute to the implementation of recycling and waste minimisation policies and initiatives, provide a professional, proactive, and customer focussed approach towards business administrative and practical tasks within the Operations Team, providing pivotal assistance with the roll out of the new Food Waste service throughout the borough.
You must be highly organised and able to prioritise a constantly evolving workload, whilst continuing to deliver to tight deadlines. You need to be adaptable and resilient to change, approach queries and challenges in a dynamic and solution focused way and be able to apply your skills to provide a range of support to colleagues across the organisation. The ideal candidate will be flexible, open to learning a range of different things, and excited to take on new opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
To provide a professional, proactive, customer focused approach towards business administrative, practical and customer focused tasks within the Operations Team. In doing so, the Recycling Assistant will contribute to the implementation of recycling and waste minimisation policies and initiatives.
Provide support to the Recycling team to increase recycling and waste minimisation activities within the Borough.
Provide project support to the Recycling team for recycling schemes and borough reuse projects.
Operate performance review mechanisms to monitor the progress and achievement of predetermined objectives.
To undertake ordering of equipment and materials
Enquiry Handling (including complaints)

Qualifications and Requirements:
- Experience of having worked in a fast paced, customer focused environment.
- Excellent knowledge and application of IT systems and software packages, including Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to carry out desk-based internet research.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, using problem solving skills and initiative to provide a customer focused support service.
- Confidence working on site (carrying out scoping, resident engagement and monitoring tasks).

- Excellent levels of literacy and numeracy.
- Ability to work flexibly, balancing competing priorities and meeting deadlines whilst understanding the needs, timescales and deadlines of others

- Ability to identify improvements to processes and systems, and to share the recommendations with the wider team.
