Supported Accommodation Team Manager 

Grade 12 (£47,040 - £49,083pa) - Permanent, 36 hours per week

Supported accommodation is a growing sector in Croydon, we as an authority are looking to review all current housing benefit claims for residents living in this type of accommodation in the borough to ensure that the quality of the accommodation as well as the level of care and support being provided by the landlord.  

 

We are setting up a multi-disciplinary team for a year to carry out these reviews and are looking for a manager to head up this team. The successful candidate will be managing a team made up of officers with housing standards experience, adult social care expertise and housing benefit officers. The aim of the team is to ensure a full and comprehensive review of all the residents and properties in the borough living in supported accommodation.

 

The role will involve managing officers who will be out in the borough and visiting residents in supported accommodation, and assessing property standards as well as officers who are assessing housing benefit claims for these residents as well as benefit claims for residents in temporary accommodation in Croydon.

 

Part of the role will involve working alongside landlords to ensure an agreed standard of support is being provided as well as making recommendations to senior managers around any findings which may impact benefit claims.   The role will also involve dealing with complaints from both residents and providers.

 

The successful candidate will be working alongside other internal departments such as commissioners and housing to share knowledge and to help shape the future of this area in Croydon and to help understand the need within the borough.

 

Supported accommodation costs the council a significant amount of money through subsidy loss and part of the role involves monitoring that loss and ensuring the council are getting value for money in terms of standards and care being provided to the residents.

 

This is a new team with new roles and so there is an opportunity for the manager to work on developing the process to ensure the success of the project.

Some of the roles within the team are on a one year contract, however this role is a permanent position.

 

The Person:

We are looking for someone with

  • Experience in the housing health and safety rating system and assessments.
  • Experience working within the supported accommodation setting and working with service users.
  • Experience of HSRS assessments (Housing Act 2004] and identifying hazards and confirmation assessment passed
  • Experience of leading a team, project or an area of work.
  • Detailed knowledge of the housing benefit regulations, specifically in relation to supported accommodation, Emergency and temporary Accommodation and the subsidy around these claims.
