Hackney’s multi award winning Markets, Shop Fronts and Street Trading Service manage and operate all the Markets and street trading activity in the Borough. Our street markets and trading sites reflect the borough’s vibrant & diverse communities and cultures, with 6 historic and successful markets dating back hundreds of years offering a wide range of quality goods, value for money and a meeting place for those much needed social interactions. Our markets have strong links with our local communities, food growing projects, small businesses, start-ups and festivals.
As a leading operator in our field, Hackney’s Markets Service deliver a best in class service providing innovative ways to develop and operate markets and street trading activities access the borough. This is an exciting time to join the markets and street trading team following continuous growth for the past 3 years and recognised nationally as a beacon borough who is leading the way for other local authorities in delivering successful markets and street trading operations. We are expanding and growing our portfolio and playing our part in increasing local employment and driving our local economy.
In this role day to day you will be the face and the very first point of contact of Hackney's markets, shop fronts and street trading service . Your passion for providing the very best customer service, excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and the desire to get it right first time every time will be key as you provide licensing and administrative support for the whole of the service. Your main responsibilities will be to process licence applications & renewals, maintain the licensing database, process and reconcile payments, chase any arrears, respond to phone enquiries and manage the service email boxes. There will be some filing and archiving, making sure our records are up to date. You will also support delivering public events, documenting enforcement activities and actions, organising meeting rooms and taking minutes where required.
We will need you to support us with some office management duties such as reporting repairs and organising maintenance and testing in line with the Council’s PPM schedule. You will also be the first point of contact for our existing and prospective traders and complete trader interviews and assessments on a daily basis. Some of your work will involve working with other teams across the Council and providing business and operational support on enforcement actions and events across the borough. There will also be some elements of weekend working to support the service as and when required.
You must be used to working with Google suites and ideally you will have some administrative experience. Knowledge of the Council's systems such as Cedar, CRM, Liberator and CivicaPay would be advantageous. You should be able to use your own initiative and love putting your organisational and financial management skills to good use. You will need to be articulate, with sound written and verbal communications. Above all, you need a ‘can do’ attitude and a desire to deliver exceptional customer service.
