Senior Sustainability Officer Business and the Green Economy
Be at the heart of tackling the most crucial issue of our time – climate change
Worried about the looming threat of climate change, but not sure what you can do to help tackle it? Look no further. This is your chance to work directly on contributing to the council’s climate and ecological emergency programme and bringing about a greener, more environmentally friendly borough for all to enjoy.
Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.
The Post
Brent Council declared a climate and ecological emergency in 2019 and pledged to do all in its gift to achieve carbon neutrality in the borough by 2030. The council is now recruiting for a hugely exciting role to act as the Council’s lead officer for supporting the growth of the green economy in Brent and to design and coordinate programmes to help Brent’s businesses to reduce their environmental impact and thereby contribute to the goals of Brent’s Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy (2021-2030).
The post holder will oversee and drive the successful delivery of key actions in our Climate Emergency Delivery Plan (2022-2024) relating to growing the local green economy and the ‘greening’ of Brent’s businesses, in particular: to create apprenticeship and training pathways into the green economy (such as construction skills for retrofitting homes); to lead engagement and delivery of our UKSPF Net Zero Accelerator Challenge and our Brent Business Climate Charter; and to develop a Green Directory of local green businesses.
This role will establish partnerships working with local industry, businesses, colleges, supply chains, ODPC, GLA and west London boroughs, supporting and aligning with existing sub-regional work as necessary to help grow the green economy in Brent.
The post holder has an incredible opportunity to be at the heart of shaping and delivering important aspects of the council’s transformative Climate and Ecological Emergency Agenda. The post will be based within the Employment, Skills and Enterprise Service while working closely with the Council’s Climate Emergency Team.
The Person
We are looking for a highly driven and creative candidate with good understanding of the Climate and Ecological Emergency agenda and the know how to help Brent transition to a low-carbon green economy.
The post holder should have demonstrable experience of delivering complex projects with excellent results, as well as being adept at managing wide-ranging internal and external stakeholders.
Closing Date: 3 December 2023 (23:59)
