Inclusive Recruitment Pilot

In keeping with Camden’s commitment to Conscious Inclusion, we are taking positive action to improve diversity at our senior levels. One of the measures we have committed to is making sure we don’t have any All-White shortlists for leadership roles.

The recruitment to this role will form part of that pilot, to support our desire to increase the number of staff from underrepresented groups in senior roles within the council. If you are a Black, Asian or Other Ethnic candidate and would like to self-declare this as part of our positive action commitments, please do so. About us

Camden is building somewhere everyone can thrive, by making our borough the best place to live, work, study and visit. Because, we’re not just home to UK’s fast-growing economy. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today. And we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. As a Public Health Senior Strategist, you can play a key role in delivering our health and wellbeing agenda.

The role

This is an exciting new role placed within our Health and Wellbeing Department where you will take a lead role in developing evidence-based strategies and interventions. You will identify ways to improve health, reduce health inequalities within Camden, and play a leadership role in a number of transformational projects, both as a system leader and a commissioner.

As Public Health Senior Strategist, you will play a key role in supporting the strategic development, commissioning, delivery, evaluation and performance management of Public Health programmes and services related to mental health and the wider determinants of health, and be the department’s suicide prevention lead. You will also contribute towards the improvement of health and the reduction of inequalities, reflecting the diversity of local need.

This role works closely with partners and departments across the council and local and national health and care system stakeholders, which ranges from NHS partners to elected members, and government departments such as the Office for Health Inequalities and Disparities.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

About you

We are looking for an experienced individual who holds a masters in Public Health, or higher degree in a related subject, or evidence of CPD in Public Health and documented experience at master’s level practice. You will have proven experience delivering Public Health initiatives to tackle inequalities, preferably in a local authority setting but not essential.

The nature of this role will mean you have a high standard of communication, demonstrated by the ability to present complex oral and written information in a variety of usable formats to a variety of audiences to drive positive change.
