We are looking for an exceptional Geography teacher to join our school with a passion for their subject and dedication to inspiring the love of geography amongst the young people they teach. The right candidate will have a desire to help the geography department ensure that students at George Mitchell have open and well skilled geographical minds which allow them to think deeply about global issues showing understanding, respect and a desire to make informed decisions in their day to day and future lives. This is an exciting time for the Geography department as the subject is enjoying increased popularity and numbers at GCSE are rising.
Geography is part of the Humanities faculty, a very supportive and progressive team in which Geography works alongside History and Religious Studies. We work together to support each other and share best practice which has led to the faculty being one of the most successful in the school.
George Mitchell School is focused on ensuring students care about the planet and we are part of the ‘Green Schools Project’ which has involved staff in activities such as an INSET day on Climate Change, a Climate Action day and a climate awareness week. It has been fantastic to see our young people getting behind the campaign for change and welcome candidates who would be interested in helping us promote the importance of climate issues.
George Mitchell School is aspiring to be an outstanding school, and we welcome colleagues who want to join us, and our students, on that journey. Behaviour for Learning is very good, and there is an enthusiastic emphasis on good outcomes for our students who hail from a richly diverse area, with many ethnic groups and languages represented. This, along with our brand new buildings and large outside spaces make George Mitchell a fantastic place to work.
We are very much a community school at the heart of a local neighbourhood, and we provide a haven in which our children feel safe, valued and happy. Each child at George Mitchell is special and we do our utmost to ensure that each student is given every opportunity to learn and succeed.
