Anonymised Application – in keeping with Camden’s commitment to inclusion the recruitment to this role is anonymised and supports the objective of reducing the impact of unconscious bias.

Employed by the London Borough of Camden the Recycling Manager will be based in North London Waste Authority (NLWA), serving Camden and six other north London boroughs.

About the role

We now have an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of developing and improving re-use and recycling in north London. The position sits within the North London Waste Authority’s (NLWA’s) Strategy and Services team, managing the waste recycling services for more than 2 million people.

A key part of the job is to develop and implement a strategic framework which will improve the recycling performance of north London and to continuously improve the provision of re-use and recycling services through innovation and partnership working with the constituent Boroughs and service contractors which collect and process our materials.

You will be responsible for managing the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) contract for the transfer and processing of the Authority’s mixed dry recyclables (approximately 120,000t per annum) and to support the management and development of re-use and recycling arrangements delivered by LondonEnergy Limited and other contractors on behalf of the Authority.

Working with stakeholders including residents, constituent Boroughs, contractors and elected members is also an essential part of this post-holder’s responsibilities.

You will also have the opportunity to develop a strategic partnership with the constituent Boroughs to tackle the important issue of contamination of mixed dry recyclables and increase capture rates of all recyclable materials.

About You

If you have experience of managing large and complex service contracts (with an estimated annual value of £12 million per year), excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and experience of effective stakeholder management then you could be the person we are looking for.

It is also essential that you have a proven track record of procuring OJEU contracts in excess of £1 million, have an advanced understanding of legislation and statutory obligations in this field, and experience of demonstrating commitment and integrating equalities and valuing diversity principles in service delivery.

If you are able to work on your own initiative and also enjoy being part of a team, then this could be your next move.

To help tackle the climate emergency and to prevent rubbish going to landfill, we are building the greenest Energy Recovery Facility in the country and modern recycling facilities at the Edmonton EcoPark, through the North London Heat and Power Project.
