We Are Newham.

We’re a vibrant, dynamic, culturally rich London Borough with a young population and bags of potential. We’re a challenging yet rewarding place to practise social work, with the support networks in place to enable you to be the best social worker you can be and make a real difference to our children and their families. Our social care services were rated to be GOOD overall by Ofsted, with leadership rated as OUTSTANDING, but we have not stopped striving to be better.

Ofsted described Newham as having a positive culture of learning and development and we always try to develop talent internally. We’ve promoted 40 internal colleagues during the past two years, and have put 46 practitioners through their systemic higher education since 2020. We value your development and at Newham career progression is real. We also understand how tough social work can be – so most of our QSW posts involve only 1 or 2 days per week in the office alongside flexible working, to maximise your wellbeing and make life easier

Apply now, and be part of our success.

ABOUT THE JOB AND ABOUT YOU

We are currently recruiting for qualified social workers across Children’s services, and have vacancies for permanent social workers to join us in the following areas:

  • DCYPS (CwD/Children with SEND)
  • Assessment*
  • Intervention**
  • No Recourse to Public Funds team *candidates need experience of NRPF*
  • MASH *candidates need MASH/front door experience*

Please specify which team you are interested in applying for in your supporting statement/application.

We are looking for social workers who have completed their ASYE year and ideally have picked up further experience in the team/service they are applying for. Experience requirements can vary from team to team due to the existing experience levels of our current social workers.

We’re looking for social workers who have a genuine interest in a restorative, relationship based practice model drawing on systemic thinking to inform your approach to building effective relationships with children, young people and their families.

We want to work with energetic, empathetic social workers that are keen to reach positive outcomes for children and families whilst taking full advantage of the learning, support and personal development that Newham offers. We’re big on career development and the rapid pace of our improvement has made internal progression a realistic possibility for high performers – get in touch for more information on our career pathway.

If you have a question relating to any of our teams or services please get in touch via email.

*Note on Assessment Service - Assessment at Newham have weekly debriefs and duty is once every 6 weeks, less frequent than many LAs.

**Note on Intervention - Although there is involvement in proceedings, court work has largely been moved from Intervention to our Children in Care service so that our Intervention teams can focus on direct work with families and improved outcomes for children and young people.
