Newham’s SEND service is undergoing positive change, and significant new investment is enabling us to expand and improve our support for young people and their families. As part of this expansion we are recruiting two apprentices. 

We seek to employ an apprentice who:

  • Wants to develop their skills and gain a Marketing level 3 qualification click here to find out more.

  • Wants to help develop and share messages relating to SEND services in Newham.
  • Is passionate about working with others to develop the ways in which we share messages with local families of through social media and other platforms.
  • Is focused on inclusivity and developing the skills and knowledge to use a range of media to share messages with children and young people with SEND and their families.
  • Can work with others to contribute to customer research, evaluating the effectiveness of the approach and contributing to reports
  • Can learn to monitor and evaluate the ways in which we use online platforms and social media to communicate with children and young people with SEND and their families. 
  • Wants to work as part of a team.

About the Job

The job title of Newham Apprentice applies to all of the apprentices hired as part of the Newham Apprenticeship Scheme.  Each apprentice will be a member of a specific functional team, although they will be expected to work in a flexible manner and carry out appropriate work in other teams when necessary to meet service objectives.

The Newham Apprenticeship Scheme offers an opportunity for you to start an exciting new career, whether it is your first job, returning to work after a career break, or you are looking for a change in career direction.

Earn as you learn whilst working alongside experienced colleagues who will help you to develop the skills the council needs. There are even opportunities to progress to a higher or degree level apprenticeship in the future, avoiding tuition fees and potential student debt.

Newham has created an exciting opportunity for a young person to work within the SEND Service to contribute in the delivery of SEND provision for children and young people aged 0 to 25. You will be part of a team of thirty apprentices being recruited within Newham. 

You will work with colleagues within the SEND Service to:

  • Develop and share messages about SEND services
  • Use research methods such as surveys and face to face events to gather insight into the effectiveness of the service and to support the improvement journey.
  • Support social media content across a range of platforms, including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate the marketing delivery effectiveness.
  • Create videos and other resources to support the sharing of messages to young people with SEND and their families. 
  • To help in producing the SEND matters newsletter 

The service shares a commitment to deliver positive and successful outcomes for children with SEND with colleagues across Children’s Services in areas such as Health and Social Care.

As an apprentice at Newham you will receive: 

  • Quality training, to include up to one day a week formal training
  • Two years fixed-term contract with Newham Council

  • Up to 23 days’ annual leave exclusive of 3 additional days that 
    • are taken between 26th December and 3rd January. All employees 
    • receive 8 public holidays per year.
  • 36 hour working week for office based apprentices
  • Health and Safety training at work

About You

We are looking for a passionate and creative apprentice who is social media savy. You will be interested in trends and have an understanding of what others find engaging. You may already use social media to share messages with others. You will understand how we can use, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and other platforms to share messages with young people with SEND and their families; with an interest in marketing and good writing skills, you will be motivated to complete a marketing assistant level 3 apprenticeship.

You will be a good team player who can work with others to enhance, expand and review our communication channels. You will have with strong analytical skills and an interest in using data to improve the ways we share messages with families. You will be proactive and energetic, eager to develop your skills. You will be interested working with young people with additional needs to hear their views. You will be an effective communicator, using a range of communication methods to engage local communities.
