The Role:

This is an existing role, at an exciting time for the service. After delivering significant improvement following a major review of youth services in 2020, we are now moving into the next phase of development, starting by bring together the youth and play services.

This role is pivotal in delivery of high-quality youth and play work provision. To support the Youth & Play teams with day-to-day facilities operational tasks related to the service buildings, sites and installations (including IT) so that they are good working order, safe, secure for both staff and visitors and compliant with relevant health and safety legislation.

To liaise with the corporate facilities management (CFM) team to provide efficient and effective building related facilities services ensuring the youth and play sites’ working environment fully supports the council’s modern ways of working.

To manage and coordinate the buildings rooms booking system and grant access to third party bookings for the various sites.

By taking part in the operational delivery of youth and play services, the role will be instrumental in ensuring that we deliver consistently excellent services and positive outcomes for young people.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to providing high quality youth and play services. You will be a collaborative team player and keen to play your part to shaping the future direction of the youth and play service.

About You:

The post holder will have first-hand experience of building operational facilities management and the importance of health and safety for front line service delivery.

Their passion and enthusiasm for the delivery of excellent services will be matched by their knowledge and experience of the following:

  • Good Knowledge of operational facilities management.
  • Knowledge of mandatory and statutory building compliance (Fire, Water Hygiene, Asbestos etc.)
  • Good Knowledge of building related health & safety, risk assessments and site inspection requirements.
  • Experience in the provision and management of technical/ building services.
  • Experience of working and liaising with contractors carrying out building or equipment related repairs.
  • Excellent communication skills including in email and face to face and experience of working with key stakeholders, partners and community organisations.
  • The ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use Microsoft office.

This is an exciting opportunity for a capable, ambitious and energetic team player who is keen to deliver excellent services for children and young people in Southwark.

Additional Information:

  • This is a part-time role part time 22 hours a week over five days.
  • Health and Safety qualification (IOSH or equivalent) and BIFM qualification or evidence of equivalent ongoing professional experience.
  • You will be required to work during the day over the Easter and summer programmes.
  • DBS check is required.
