Job introduction
This post is key to the teams work of delivering the Education capital programme, in particular the yearly planned maintenance programme to ensure that school land and buildings are kept in good condition and compliant with legislation.
The main elements of the post holders duties are:
- Keeping a record of the current condition of the school estate so that maintenance works can be properly prioritised.
- Undertaking visits to all schools annually to determine any significant changes to the condition of buildings.
- Preparing the yearly planned programme of works to ensure that capital funding is efficiently and effectively used.
- Overseeing the preparation of tenders and agreeing to the award of projects for the yearly planned programme of works.
- Ensuing that all Health and Safety matters are properly considered and addressed for all works undertaken.
- Designated person responsible for asbestos and legionella related queries in education establishments.
- Management of the Term Maintenance Contracts for schools to ensure statutory compliance.

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic manager to join the Education Premises Team within our Property & Design Division.
You will prepare and implement the annual programme of planned and term maintenance to maintained school buildings in the city in conjunction with the Council’s in house building surveyors and facilities managers.
You will act as a source of advice and support to schools in respect of maintenance works and this will include regular visits to school premises. You will assist in assessing the need to acquire or dispose of land or property and to secure approval of leases, licences and wayleaves and to maintain up to date records of school buildings, land and property. You will contribute to corporate asset management policies and procedures. You will take the lead in specific health and safety areas such as legionella and asbestos matters.
You will have appropriate experience of property management and budget setting and monitoring, be a good team player, strong on Health and Safety, have a flexible approach, good communication and IT and organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

We offer the opportunity for the suitable candidate to choose to work in a hybrid way. Your specific working arrangements will be subject to team and service working arrangements already in place alongside Government guidance. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and travel to and from your contractual location would be at your own expense.
