1x Business Support Officer - Six Month Fixed Term Full Time Position - located with ‘Our Newham Money’ offices in Stratford.
Flexible Shift Pattern required - 36 hours a week, which will include Weekends and Evenings.
The London Borough of Newham is recruiting Cost of Living Outreach Officers to be part of a Cost of Living Outreach Team. The Cost of Living Outreach Team aims to protect and promote the health of Newham residents who are most vulnerable to the impacts of the cost of living crisis. The team will help residents to access emergency support and services, including emergency financial support, benefits and budgeting advice, support with energy bills, food support, mental health services, befriending and more. The team will help to overcome barriers that some residents face to accessing services, such as lack of awareness of the services available, digital exclusion, language and literacy barriers, trust in the Council and other institutions, and others.
As a Cost of Living Outreach Business Support Officer, you will make contact with residents by phone and in person through community outreach or home visits. You will check on residents’ wellbeing and have a supportive conversation to build trust, to assess their needs and to understand the services or support that they may want to access. You will provide information and advice and help residents to access services, such as through referring them for follow up, helping them to register for support, or providing information and explaining the services and support that are available. For some residents, you may have one-off contact, while for others you may be in contact with them multiple times – this will depend on their needs.

We are seeking to recruit a Business Support Officers on a six months fixed term contract to join our exciting and challenging Business Support Service, to help play a key role in achieving positive outcomes for residents of Newham. We seek individuals who share our vision and can positively and enthusiastically contribute to the continuous improvement of the Business Support Service and Newham as an organisation.
Business Support provides high level administrative support to a wide range of services across the Council including Housing, Environment, Enforcement and Safety, Children’s and Adults’ services.
As a member of Business Support, you will be part of a busy administrative team working within either our ‘Operational Hub’ or the ‘Social Care Hub’ carrying out a wide range of business processes to support our internal and external service partners. Working together to achieve our vision and make our service as efficient and effective as possible.
About You
We are looking for people who have a wide range of skills and experience including:
- Highly adaptable to changes in work priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Emotionally resilient
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- An ability to work using own initiative and organise own workload
- Methodical and logical thinkers
- Able to work across a broad range of administrative and clerical tasks.
- Excellent IT literacy
- A flexible and adaptable approach to work and being a team member.
