About The Service:

Following a complete restructure of the Corporate Centre for the London Borough of Newham, the Mayor’s office has undergone a complete transformation to make it ready to deliver the Building a Fairer Newham Corporate Plan.

The Mayor’s office now includes some exciting new roles which, together with the changes to the corporate centre around digital, communications, climate change and performance, means we are hard-wired to deliver on the promises made to Newham residents over the current four-year administration.

Within the Mayor’s office we have built a team with exciting new roles which provide a diverse and inspiring insight into the work of the Council through the lens of the Mayor’s office. The range of skills and variety you will experience will be extensive and delivered via a supportive team ethic which will motivate you to succeed.

About The Role:

Senior Cabinet Officer, P04

£43,815 - £46,857:

Newham’s diversity and vibrancy makes it like no other borough in London and the Mayor is keen to hear from as many residents as possible to ensure that she advocates their wishes at all times. This role requires a high level of emotional intelligence as well as an understanding of the key issues affecting many of our residents on a daily basis. In this role, working with two cabinet officers, you will be the main interface with the people of Newham and be representing the Mayor in every response you give. If you enjoy problem solving and championing effective solutions for residents as well as challenging the corporate response to ensure that residents find resolution and improve the overall resident experience, we want to hear from you.

About Us:

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east.  It is well connected  by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.

Newham has a large housing regeneration programme that will build over 1,000 new council homes by 2022.
