The role of the Family Navigator is an important component of Early Help delivery in Newham. The aim of this role is to help families to navigate the Early Help System by signposting families to services within their local community to access the support they need when they need it. Where necessary, the postholder may support families to access provision for the first time.
The post holder may be required to work evenings and possibly weekends in order to meet service requirements and travel outside the borough to meet the needs of families.
This pivotal role will also help us to understand the needs of our local community, identify the gaps in current provision and inform future opportunities for service development.
The Family Navigator will provide a point of contact, supporting families to increase their confidence and encourage meaningful engagement with relevant support services/organisations. They will make themselves available to families by having a regular presence in key community settings where children, young people and families attend so that they are able to signpost and direct families to appropriate services.
The Family Support Navigator will apply a whole family outcome focused approach, working closely with a range of partners to meet the needs of families and young people up to the age of 18 (and 25 years of age if the young person has a special educational need or disability).
Please note that this role is not limited to the above and other duties may apply in accordance to the overall aims and objectives of the Early Help Strategy.
