About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO’S PERSUASIVE POWERS

The Public Realm team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.

Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers. It’s a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of – and they were keen for people to spread the word. So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal. And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.

The Role:

As a Programme Assurance Manager, you can make your own powerful contribution and shape how we think about our streets and spaces. The council’s Highways service is responsible for around £50m of capital investment for a range of schemes that focus on sustainability, safety and the future uses of our streets. This is some of the most exciting public realm work and an opportunity to work with influential stakeholders and translate their ambitions alongside the council's priorities into reality.

An essential and exciting part of this role is the innovative design of schemes. You’ll work with colleagues to ensure changes are approved before commission and contract managing external service providers to deliver individual projects.

You’ll work to deliver a range of improvement projects, managing and maintaining a number of collaborative relationships with service providers, stakeholders and customers. You’ll advise partners on all matters relating to highways and new concepts to promoting our strategic priorities. You’ll ensure that project management methodologies are applied throughout the delivery cycle from the development of project plans to governance and to the management of dependencies and risk.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

With relevant qualifications and experience managing a range of projects and programmes within Highways and Infrastructure you’ll have experience delivering large service contracts. Comfortable working from home and central London, your ability to build effective supplier relationships and manage substantial budgets is complimented by your collaborative working style. Your effective communication skills and ability to analyse information and extract key facts allows for efficient delivery of schemes.

As well as this your analytical capabilities mean you recognise interdependencies and opportunities for pragmatic solutions. A strong problem solver, your customer-driven work ethic creates value for everyone in the delivery process. You’re results-focussed. And this approach to business combined with firm knowledge of applying project management techniques to our programmes allows you to influence stakeholders. Your commitment to teamwork, as well as self-development, will fuel continuous improvement. And we’ll support you as we work together to achieve our overall programme objectives.

The Council and its partners are committed to achieving diverse shortlists for all vacancies at Band 4 or above to support our desire to increase the number of staff from underrepresented groups in our workforce. As part of this ambition, if you are from a Black, Asian and Multiple Ethnic backgrounds (B.A.ME) you can self-declare this to the hiring manager as part of our positive action commitments.
