Environmental Services Manager
About Us:
Help us deliver living environments to boast about.
Unashamedly ambitious in our determination to secure a great quality of life for our local residents, the Housing Management team at the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea is a delightfully forward-thinking place in which to pursue your career ambitions. Here, we put our community at the heart of every decision, ensuring that high quality services are being delivered, and that every pound is being spent to best effect. We are constantly challenging ourselves to do even more for our residents, so if you have a wealth of innovative ideas, then you will be a welcome addition to our team.
The Role:
With responsibility for the Boroughwide Ground care Service, you will have the resources at your disposal to improve the lives of our local community, by ensuring that our estate grounds and buildings aren’t just safe and tidy – they’re home environments that our residents can be proud of.
Overseeing a team of around six colleagues, you will look after our communal repairs service and maintenance contracts relating to anything from grass cutting to strawberry planting. You will also have oversight of a portfolio of interesting estate improvement projects. With around 50 projects happening at any one time, you will see to it that projects are being delivered on time and within budget. Acting as the catalyst to ensure promises are being kept, you will proactively reach out to other service managers and teams to deliver shared initiatives.
It goes without saying that a role of this scope is reliant on exceptional community engagement, so you will also handle consultations with the public, seeing to it that a consensus has been achieved, and that proposed projects align with local aspirations. Furthermore, you will be happy to conduct site visits, handle tender processes, identify opportunities to secure additional community funding and drive value-for-money at every turn.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.
About You:
To excel in this fascinating role, we will expect you to bring a deeply collaborative approach. With great communication skills, you will easily build partnerships with colleagues and service providers, and you will have a background in successfully managing contracts. With at least five years of landscape/ environmental management including managing open spaces within the urban environment (ideally underpinned by a relevant degree or RHS diploma), you will have a good understanding of the methodologies and materials required for effective consulting processes. Comfortable managing projects, you will be well versed in contract tendering and monitoring.
In turn, we can offer you a competitive benefits package that includes ongoing training and development opportunities, plus the chance to develop your technical skills in GIS data and mapping and computer-aided design. We will also provide you with a competitive contributory pension, and generous annual leave.
