This role is will be part office (Waterloo, SE1) and part home based.

An opportunity  has arisen in the Legal Services Team for a Solicitor or member of ILEX with a minimum of 3 years PQE. The successful candidate will work as part of the Legal Services team to provide a comprehensive legal service to internal customers primarily on all aspects of landlord and tenant law including but not limited to property litigation, general property and land law and to develop expertise in other areas of law and to provide advice and support as required by Peabody Trust.  You will work under the supervision of a Solicitor to take responsibility for management of your own caseload, to provide support to the Senior Solicitors and Head of Legal on complex/and or substantial matters. 

Role purpose:

To work as part of the Legal Services team to provide a comprehensive in-house legal service to internal customers primarily all aspects of landlord & tenant law, including but not limited to property litigation, general property and land law.

Key results:

  • To take responsibility for management of own caseload comprising a variety of landlord and & tenant matters, including but not limited to property litigation, general property and land law.
  • To provide support as assistant to Senior Solicitor (Dispute Resolution) and the Head of Legal on complex and/or substantial matters as required.
  • To provide legal support to internal Peabody customers in both contentious and non-contentious matters including providing legal analysis on policy, procedure and corporate business.
  • To represent Peabody within proceedings of the county and magistrates court; and First Tier Tribunal. Including, where appropriate to act as an advocate in hearings.
  • To positively represent Legal & Assurance and pro-actively contribute to cross Peabody working groups/forums.
  • To contribute to the achievement of Legal & Assurance service delivery strategy and Peabody’s business objectives.
  • To play an active role in the provision of the Legal Services training programme.
  • To work to the highest case management standards in accordance with Lexcel standards and procedures. To undertake a range of continuing professional development.
  • To follow Peabody’s Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure, as far as is practicable, your own safety and that of others in the workplace.

About you:

You will have:

  • Admission as a solicitor in England & Wales or a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (FILEX)
  • Post qualification experience NQ to 3 years.
  • Knowledge of landlord & tenant law, property litigation, CPR practice and procedures.
  • Experience of property litigation and general landlord & tenant law.
  • Up to date knowledge of case-law and the Civil Procedure Rules.
  • Clear analytical skills, with the ability to process large amounts of information into effective legal proceedings.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal issues to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience of or the confidence to deliver training.
  • An understanding of Peabody business – social housing, charitable programmes, developer.
