About the role
An opportunity has arisen for a M10 Senior Social Worker to join the Mental Health Homeless Team (MHHT). Applicants should have experience of working in mental health services and have an interest in working with the homelessness population.
MHHT is a small multi-disciplinary specialist team providing assessment, treatment and support to homeless or insecurely housed people who have a severe and enduring mental illness and who may have additional substance misuse problems. The team has extensive knowledge of the complexities faced by the homeless population in Brighton. Over the 20 years it has been operating it has established excellent links with Primary care services, Brighton and Hove City Council, Brighton Housing Trust and many of the additional homeless person services in the city.
We aim to provide a direct and assertive outreach service, working in partnership with other local homeless agencies from both the statutory and voluntary sector. You will require a basic understanding of housing legislation as it relates to Brighton and Hove and be familiar with recent changes in social legislation as it relates to this client group
The post holder will conduct complex assessments and risk assessments in a variety of settings and manage a caseload as a lead practitioner. As a Social Worker you will support the delivery of statutory duties placed upon us by the Care Act carrying and other tasks related to the provision of Mental Health Services. These duties will relate to individuals, families and carers in accordance with relevant statutory legislation. You will also be responsible for the supervision of the M11 Social Worker within the team and act as an Enquiry Supervisor for Safeguarding Enquiries. We are looking for someone with relevant experience, someone who has high professional standards and who is keen to continue their professional development. An excellent knowledge of current legislation such as the Care Act and Mental Capacity Act is essential.
The Mental Health Homeless Team is a multi-disciplinary team of professionals all of who take great pride in their work. It is a supportive environment with good learning and training opportunities. You will receive regular supervision and support and have opportunities for on-going development and specialist training.
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Providing advice to staff about proportionate and personalised responses to service users and their carers.
- Helping to embed consideration of strengths and relationship based practice in all of our assessment processes.
- Providing a specialist view and/or intervention in the assessment and management of risk
The successful candidate will:
- Be a qualified social worker.
- Confident in their knowledge and experience of safeguarding vulnerable adults and the assessment of risk.
- Have an understanding of the importance of information and advice in supporting people to maintain their own independence and wellbeing

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
