The role

We have an exciting opportunity to work part-time (18 hours per week) as an Education Consultant where you would successfully develop and strategically lead either a cohort of Looked After Children in the Primary and/or Secondary Phase of education. You would lead the work to improve the attendance and attainment of these Looked After Children.

You would act as the education corporate parent and advocate within the professional network for Looked After Children, looking for ways to drive up improvements in the educational progress and attainment of Looked After Children, including those who have been placed in schools in other LAs.

You would support young people, often with a complex range of needs, by identifying the most appropriate education to meet their needs. You would support the child, school, social workers and carers by advising on how to meet the learning needs of the child. You would have an extensive knowledge of the network of related professionals who will also support Looked After Children.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

About you

We are looking for someone who holds a QTS qualification and has expert knowledge and understanding of what constitutes quality education provision in both Primary or Secondary phase and strategies for raising Looked After Children engagement and achievement.

You will have a working knowledge of both Primary and Secondary education and excellent knowledge of the new national curriculum and assessment in either Primary or Secondary phase.

An in-depth knowledge of a diverse range of education provision, including alternate education options and how to establish a positive climate for improvement, particularly for pupils who need support with a variety of learning, behavioural, social, and emotional difficulties and SEND.

You will be able to work independently and have the ability to analyse, create reports and present data to senior officers and members within the organisation as well as Headteachers. Ideally, you will have substantial experience in working with vulnerable children and / or young people, coaching / mentoring / training schools, carers and experience with working with social services and mental health services and bring this wealth of experience with you to this role.
